Facebook launches original video content in redesigned Watch tab
It's a potential threat to Twitter, YouTube, Netflix and other services for watching video.
Watch will be available on mobile, desktop and on Facebook's TV app and it will have different video sections like like "Most Talked About", which highlights shows that spark conversation, "What's Making People Laugh", which includes shows where many people have used the "Haha" reaction, and "What Friends Are Watching", which helps you connect with friends about shows they too are following. The feature began appearing for some users in U.S. on Thursday.Shows played on Watch, which can be live or recorded will follow a particular theme or a storyline and will available different categories like "Most Talked About" or "What's Making People Laugh" so that viewer can pick up show according to thier interests. The new platform offers an opportunity for social interactions via the Facebook community of some two billion users. Further the users can also watch the episodes and connect with friends who also follow the same show. Facebook has funded some of the creators to get the service going.

To help users keep a tap on the shows they follow, there's also a Watchlist so users don't miss out any episodes. Per reports, some of the shows that will be available on Watch include Tastemade's Kitchen Little (cooking show for kids), National Geographic's "Safari Live", NASA's "Science @ NASA", Gabby Bernstein (motivational series), A&E's "Bae or Bail" (reality show).
Facebook has also signed a deal with Major League Baseball to broadcast one live game per week.
Facebook has announced the launch of its new video platform known as Watch.
It is available to some USA users Thursday, and more people will get it over time. Over time, creators will be able to monetize their shows through "ad breaks", according to Facebook. However, it would be interesting to see whether this new video service will be able to give a stiff competition to other streaming giants. "In general, the model here feels very YouTube-like, with a subscription model, though Facebook's apps for TV platforms in recent months have signaled the broad structure and interface, with a combination of videos recommended or liked by friends, things you've saved, things that are popular on the platform, and so on", said Jan Dawson of Jackdaw Research.
