Al-Qaeda Kashmir chief Zakir Musa reportedly trapped by security forcesi n Tral

Intense clashes erupted after Zakir Musa and his aide were reportedly trapped in a residential house at Noorpora, his native village in Tral on Friday evening.

Security forces have cordoned off the area where Zakir Musa is believed to be hiding in a house.

Kashmiri daily, Greater Kashmirreported that government forces launched a cordon-and-search operation on Friday in Norpora village of Tral in south Kashmir's Pulwama district. The security forces however, had cordoned off four villages including Peer Mohalla, Shah Mohalla, Daggarpora and Noorpora villages to prevent the exit of the militants trapped in Noorpora village.

As soon as the search operation was launched, youth took to streets and clashed with forces. According to news agency ANI, a massive search operation is now underway in Tral.

Massive clashes and protests have been reported in Zakir Musa's native village in Nor Pora. Musa fell out with Hizbul Mujahideen on May 14, after threatening to publicly behead Hurriyat leaders, who insist that the movement is Kashmir is "political".

The al Qaeda's claims of making inroads in Kashmir could potentially open a new front in the valley, which is witnessing a spurt in militant activities and civilian protests since the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani past year.
