During a sold-out show at Michigan's Palace of Auburn Hills in suburban Detroit on Saturday night, Mars announced that he and promoter Live Nation would donate $1 million in proceeds from the show to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint for people affected by the Flint water crisis, the Los Angeles Times reported.

During his "24K Magic World Tour" stop in Auburn Hills, Mich., on Saturday (Aug. 12), the Grammy-winning singer candidly told the audience of his charitable donation which is going directly to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint.

"I'm very thankful to the MI audience for joining me in supporting this cause", Mars said in a statement reported by ABC News.

The Flint Water Crisis was identified in 2014 when the source for drinking water was switched from Detroit water to the Flint River. With the water not properly treated through its processing, it led to alarmingly high levels of lead with thousands exposed to contaminated water, including children.

Mars, who was born and raised in Hawaii, is now travelling across the U.S. for his 24K Magic World Tour.

Mars is now on a sold out world tour in support of his latest album, 24K Magic. Due to insufficient water treatment, it was later found to contain unsafe levels of lead.
