FIERCE North Korea and US are embroiled in a bitter stand off
The French Socialist Party on Friday called on President Emmanuel Macron to actively participate in the resolution of the crisis around North Korea, pointing out France's lack of involvement.
"The North Korean regime today is engaged in a risky escalation of tensions, which poses a serious threat to the security of its neighbors as well as the durability of worldwide efforts aimed at denuclearization", the Elysée said in a statement.
A White House statement said Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron had discussed "the increasingly unsafe situation associated with North Korea's destabilizing and escalatory behavior". "President Trump stated that the United States is ready, along with its allies, to apply the full range of diplomatic, economic, and military measures to achieve that goal", said a readout of the phone call.
French President Emmanuel Macron made a plea to de-escalate tensions with North Korea and called on the global community to proceed toward new measures aimed at an irreversible dismantling of the country's nuclear program. US President Donald Trump said that Washington would respond with "fire and fury" to any possible threats.
