To stop BJP's 2019 march, Opposition parties to meet in Delhi today

Karnataka poll Rahul Gandhi bets on Congress win

Congress high command Sonia Gandhi had invited nearly all the opposition parties to unite as one entity against the BJP-led government on Friday, ahead of the last day of the monsoon session. 16 out of 18 parties, which were invited, attended the meeting.

This is the second major opposition party, after Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United), which has distanced itself from a united opposition.

".Congress party will win the election on the strength of its work, the work done towards farmers, youth in the state".

Meanwhile, with Ahmed Patel emerging victorious in the Gujarat Rajya Sabha polls, the NCP on Wednesday reminded the Congress that this triumph happened due to their help, and the grand old party must remember this in the future. Before this 17 opposition parties had united to decide a consensus candidate for the Presidential polls and then 19 parties united to decide the candidate for the Vice-Presidential elections.

The meeting on Friday was, however, attended by dissident JD (U) MP Ali Anwar Ansari, who is opposed to his party's alliance with the BJP in Bihar. Siddaramaiah had implemented a number of projects for Dalits, backward classes and the minorities, he said. He indicated that a small group of opposition leaders might be formed to carry forward the consultation process.

Gandhi also took a dig at the Centre over low employment rates in the country and said, "They speak about Make in India, not even one factory has opened".

Karnataka is all set to go into assembly elections next year and with the increasing ouster of Congress from most states the party is in dire need of a reformed strategy to counter BJP.

Taking a dig at the Modi government for low employment rate, Gandhi said the government in Karnataka is doing a far better job in this regard.
