Rick Scott announced measures Saturday to protect the state's elderly population during emergencies, following a national outcry over the death of eight residents of a nursing home that lost power after Hurricane Irma.
The Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills in Hollywood, Fla., was evacuated on September 13, 2017. The home had been without power since Hurricane Irma. They found three people dead and evacuated 145 people to hospitals, many on stretchers or in wheelchairs, authorities said.

Earlier in his one-day visit to Florida, Trump also lauded state and federal officials for their preparation and response to the hurricane.

However, officials said they are anxious a new crisis could emerge when homeowners find their neighborhoods have no fuel, power, running water and other basic services. By that afternoon, five more had died. Others were treated for dehydration, breathing difficulties and other heat-related problems.
Investigators said they believe the six deaths were heat-related in the wake of Hurricane Irma. The centre said it plans to the fight the state's efforts to shut it down.
Police said they have opened a probe into possible criminal negligence.
While counties claim nursing homes fall on priority lists for power restorations, we've discovered the state does not consider nursing homes to be high priority centers like hospitals.
