Donald Trump warns North Korea of 'overwhelming' options
Pyongyang says it needs nuclear weapons to protect itself from "hostile" United States forces and is determined to build a weapons system capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to hit the U.S. mainland.
"Asked him how Rocket Man is doing", Trump said on Twitter Sunday in an apparent reference to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Kim was shown beaming as he watched the missile fly from a moving launcher in photos released by the agency, surrounded by several officials.
The KCNA said Kim expressed great satisfaction over the launch, which he said verified the "combat efficiency and reliability" of the missile and the success of efforts to increase its power.
Diplomacy on the North Korean nuclear standoff has been stalled for years. That launch came less than two weeks after Pyongyang staged its most powerful nuclear test yet.
The UN Security Council on Friday strongly condemned North Korea's "highly provocative" missile launch and demanded Pyongyang immediately halt such actions - but did not threaten further sanctions. "We have been kicking the can down the road and we are out of road".
Last week, Trump and his top national security advisers said that there are military options available despite doubts from some experts.
Meanwhile, Russian political analyst Andrei Manoylo told Radio Sputnik that North Korea would be able to weather these new sanctions easily.
McMaster sent a mixed message Friday, insisting that the USA retained a "military option" in dealing with North Korea even while calling on "everyone to do everything we can to address the global problem short of war".
Just two days ago, North Korea fired a ballistic missile over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, the latest in a series of missile tests defying the worldwide community.
North Korea's ambassador to the United Nations Han Tae Song, however, declared that Pyongyang condemns this "latest illegal and unlawful UN Security Council resolution".
"Eventually, if its opponents start backing the country into a corner, North Korea may begin selling missile technology".
He further stressed that the country should be prepared for a nuclear counter-attack, which the "U.S. can not cope with". "So North Korea will weather these sanctions easily", he explained.
"I don't think that he'll stray too much outside of the boundaries of that", Collins said.
Trump said America and its allies will never be intimidated.

The missile on Friday traveled 2,300 miles as it flew over Japan on Friday before landing in the northern Pacific Ocean. North Korea also has the world's largest standing army.
Trump has also threatened "fire and fury" in response to North Korea's threats. We need a different approach: North Korea should be presented with opportunities for cooperation; the country should be drawn into various organizations to become bound by a mesh of worldwide obligations.
The South Korean government said they fired a missile within minutes afterwards, from their coastline. North Korea has partner states that maintain unofficial cooperation with it.
