Indian telecom operator Bharti Airtel has selected Karbonn Mobiles to launch affordable 4G smartphone in India
Airtel notes that while the Karbonn A40 Indian normally costs Rs 3,499 it will be offering the 4G smartphone effectively at the price of a feature phone by bringing a tariff plan into the mix.
In a bid to take on Reliance Jio's affordable 4G feature phone, Airtel has launched an Android 4G phone in partnership with Karbonn.
Airtel India has partnered with Karbonn to launch a budget 4G VoLTE smartphone, and this also indicates that the network provider has stepped into the VoLTE segment.
The telecom operator detailed just how the Karbonn A40 Indian, which was launched back in July and is said to now have a market price of Rs. 3,499, will be available at an "effective price" of Rs. 1,399.

Unlike the keypad-based Reliance JioPhone, Airtel branded Karbonn A40 Indian offers better user-experience as the latter is a full-screen Android mobile and supports all the apps on Google Play store, including YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp.
Karbonn A40 Indian smartphone comes bundled with a monthly pack of Rs 169 from Airtel. However, to claim the cash refund benefit, recharges worth Rs 3,000 must be done within the first 18 months (to claim the first refund instalment of Rs 500) and another Rs 3,000 over the next 18 months (to claim the second refund instalment of Rs 1,000), the company said.
Commenting on the association with Airtel, Pardeep Jain, Managing Director, Karbonn Mobiles said, "Karbonn is proud to announce its association with Airtel in order to provide exciting offers through bundled services".
"We plan to partner with multiple manufacturers to bring affordable smartphone options to the market and build an "open ecosystem" of low cost devices". The phone also has a 4-inch display (with 480 x 800 pixels resolution), and there is Dual SIM compatibility.
Couple of months back Jio had introduced a similar offer with JioPhone where the customers need to pay a security deposit of Rs 1500 to own a 4G phone and the money will be refunded to the users after 3 years.
'Effective price' of the phone is Rs 1399.
If you do not wish to opt for the Rs 169 bundled plan, you can get recharges of any value. The device also features a MicroSD card slot which can handle cards of up to 32GB.
Coming with the 4G VoLTE connectivity, the Karbonn A40 Indian has a quad-core processor, possibly from MediaTek and along with that is 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage. It comes with a 2-megapixel camera on the rear and a 0.3-megapixel camera on the front. Other key features of the smartphone include 4G, VoLTE, Bluetooth and Global Positioning System.
