The Allahabad High Court on October 12, acquitted Nupur and Rajesh Talwar in the 9-year-old murder case of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj. Overruling a lower court verdict, the court has given them the benefit of doubt, saying that there is no clinching evidence that the Talwars are guilty.
As per reports, the court is likely to re-evaluate the testimony of key witnesses after the defence had accused the prosecution of tutoring them.
A bench of Justice B.K. Narayana and Justice A.K. Mishra set free the couple in the sensational murder of 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar at their Jalvayu Vihar home in Noida on May 16, 2008. Journalists were allowed all access to the terrace when Hemraj's body was found. The police was suspecting that the househelp could be the murderer who was missing from the house. The open-ended films mostly tried to focus on the Talwars' ordeal and tried to recreate the situations that might have led a couple to take their own child's life.
The nine-year trial in the murder of their daughter Aarushi had left the Talwar couple emotionally drained, Nupur Talwar's father said today, thanking the judiciary for acquitting them.
