The big new feature for the Oasis is the integration of Amazon's Audible audiobook service, the first time for a Kindle device, which allows readers to seamlessly switch between audiobooks and ebooks, maintaining their position in the story if they own both formats of a particular book using the Whispersync for Voice service.
The Kindle's rivals, including Kobo, have had water resistant versions of their e-readers since 2014, but have failed to disrupt Amazon's dominance of the ebook market. The newest model of the Kindle Oasis has a 7-inch display with a screen resolution of 300 ppi or pixels per inch. Waterproofing has always been an omission on Kindle e-readers, and will now let people read at the beach or in the bath tub without worrying about damage, Amazon said. The device fits over 30 per cent more words per page and it has the fastest page turns of any Kindle. Whether you want to read in the bath, the swimming pool or even in the rain- you name it- Amazon's latest Kindle can withstand being plummeted into two meters of water for up to 60 minutes. This means that you can now take your e-reader to any place you feel like.
As far as the design is concerned, it is identical to that of last year's Kindle Oasis.
This year's Amazon Kindle Oasis features a more premium aluminium finish. The Kindle Oasis can be connected to wireless headphones or wireless speakers via Bluetooth. The 3G model comes with a default storage capacity of 32GB.
