Bernie Sanders, a Man, Will Address the Women's Convention on Its Opening Night
Sanders, critics were quick to point out, is notably. not a woman.
Sander, who unsuccessfully ran agaisnt Hillary Clinton during the Democratic primaries in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, said he was 'honored to join the women'. "In January, millions of women came out in an extraordinary and unprecedented display of power and resistance", Sanders said about speaking at the Women's Convention."Now more than ever, we must support the leadership of women across the country and fight together to advance our progressive agenda". Officials with the organization wouldn't confirm if any of the Democratic women had been first invited as the opening-night speaker, as Sanders appears to have been.
Piper Perabo (actress and activist), Sally Kohn (Political Commentator and Community Organizer) and Lilianna Angel Reyes (Activist), Nomiki Konst (Investigative Reporter, The Young Turks), Leah Greenberg (Co-Executive Director, The Indivisible Project) also join the growing roster of speakers.

Those who didn't understand that the backlash towards Sanders alleged that the convention's organizer's likely wouldn't be able to afford preferred speaker Hillary Clinton, who was reported to be priced at $275,000 in 2015. This omission sparked a social media movement, with many using the hashtag #AddHerName.
The three-day convention in Detroit is expected to attract more than 3,000 people, according to the Detroit Free Press. Other participants include actresses Amber Tamblyn and Piper Perabo; Rep Maxine Waters, a Democrat from California; and OH politician Nina Turner, among others.
The event still secured many high-profile women leaders for the weekend of October 27.
