Dog days? In Italy, count them like family sick days

An Italian woman has won a legal battle for sick pay for time she took off work to look after her dog.

The librarian, who doesn't want to be identified, is single and says she considers the dog, who she rescued from a park, to be her family.

A female complainant petitioned the court after her employer - Rome's La Sapienza university - refused to grant her paid leave to take her dog to the vet.
