Oculus Go is a standalone VR headset coming in early 2018 for just $199
That story has now been confirmed with the social media giant announcing a standalone VR headset that requires no phone or PC.

Oculus announces Oculus Go: Standalone VR Headset
The latest prototype is sleeker and features fully tracked controllers to enable hand presence in standalone form factor. Facebook and other major technology companies such as Google and Microsoft that are betting on VR have a long way to go.
However, adoption is slow in the consumer realm - despite Facebook's hopes to push up to one billion people into adopting virtual reality - and some elements of a successful transition into the mainstream are lacking. This new deal should be the best opportunity to capture the VR market, which should be able to capture a junk of VR market. It's massive because it offers so much simplicity, and without the need for a cable or a mobile phone. Meanwhile, Pixar's first VR experience, Coco, is coming to Gear VR and Rift November 15.
The Oculus Go will feature integrated spatial audio, though there's also a 3.5mm headphone jack should you need it. Oculus noted that developers building for GearVR are also doing it for the Oculus Go as the two share the same controller input and the apps are binary compatible. You can watch movies or concerts, play games, or hang out with your friends in virtual reality. With the new launches, Facebook is looking to control the overall VR experience with the help of onboard computation, which means no need for smartphones or PC. The auto company is using Oculus for Business to build VR showrooms to allow customers to walk around the place and configure the vehicle themselves before they make the purchasing decision.
It comes with a high-resolution fast-switch LCD screen and next-generation lens technology that could have input from Cork's own InfiniLED which was acquired by Oculus a year ago to boost VR screen technology.
Oculus Go is intended for those that do not have a Samsung smartphone. However, the avatars were restricted to VR headsets that are based on the company's own VR software platform. Also, Unlike Rift, the Oculus Go won't have full space tracking features due to its untethered nature.
