According to the Wall Street Journal, roughly 1,500 workers will be affected at GM'S Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant, which produces four auto models that are seeing sluggish demand: the Buick LaCrosse, the Cadillac CT-6 sedan, the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid, and the Chevrolet Impala.
The Detroit-Hamtramck plant will likely produce 20 percent fewer vehicles once production resumes in 2018, the Journal said.

The nation's largest automaker plans to temporarily shut down its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant for a six-week period beginning in mid-November, according to the Wall Street Journal. The planned reduction will reportedly cost 200 jobs at the facility.
Impala sales are off 32 percent through September, while Volt sales are down 6 percent and LaCrosse sales are off 21.
Both GM and rival Ford Motor have struggled for most of this year to rein in high inventories of passenger cars as consumers have shifted to buying pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. With supply swelling, manufacturers have sought to curb production. "This action continues to show that GM remains price disciplined" by cutting production instead of increasing incentives. Along with that announcement, GM said it planned to layoff around 1,200 employees at the plant. The spokesman also says that while 6,000 jobs were eliminated, 2,300 temporary workers and 800 of its hourly, union-represented workers have been laid off, for a total of 3,100 job cuts so far.
