K-2SO is your
Whilst it may not have been the best time to make a virtual reality (VR) announcement during the Oculus Connect 4 (OC4) keynote address, The VOID, ILMxLAB and Lucasfilm have just revealed that tickets for Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire are now on sale ahead of the experience's opening later this year.
"We are so excited about this magical collaboration between three first-to-market companies in the burgeoning out-of-home VR entertainment sector". But we now have a clearer idea of the virtual reality experience one Disney resort plans to offer this December.
Come January, visitors to Downtown Disney will have a chance to virtually experience what it's like going through a mission inside the Star Wars universe. And we all got a first peek at the experience as well, thanks to a new trailer (embedded above). In the story, groups of four, teams will go undercover as Stormtroopers to capture Imperial intelligence vital to the budding rebellion's survival. You and your squad must navigate an enemy facility disguised as Stormtroopers, with Rogue One's K-2SO at your side.
By combining Lucasfilm's storytelling expertise with cutting-edge imagery, and immersive sound from the team at Skywalker Sound, while invoking all the senses, we hope to truly transport all those who experience Star Wars: "Secrets of the Empire to a galaxy far, far away". You'll grab your blaster, solve puzzles, and fight giant lava monsters in an effort to fulfill the rebellion's orders.
Facebook announces standalone VR headset
That story has now been confirmed with the social media giant announcing a standalone VR headset that requires no phone or PC. This new deal should be the best opportunity to capture the VR market, which should be able to capture a junk of VR market.
The 30-minute attraction, originally announced in early August, will include groups of four participants taking on the roles of undercover rebels on an Imperial base.
Tickets have just been made available at thevoid.com, with admission for both the Anaheim and Orlando locations costing $29.95 per person plus applicable fees.
