Wike and Amaechi
Governor Nyesom Wike has accused the Federal Government of planning to cause chaos in Rivers State. He claimed that the attack on his convoy by operatives of the Special Anti-robbery Squad and soldiers attached to the Minister of Transport, Chibuike Amaechi, was a pointer to a grand ploy to plunge the state into crisis.
The party continued, "the entire world is aware of how unsafe Governor Wike is and how he has killed many APC members to usurp powers in Rivers State and how he has supervised and turned Rivers State into Rivers of blood but to attempt to assassinate a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the mode of Amaechi, his benefactor and predecessor is to us is an affront not only on our nascent democracy but an attempt to truncate our hard earned democracy and to plunge this country into a chaotic situation which consequences may be unimaginable". Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who was in the same vehicle with the Minister of Transportation, indicated that Wike's dispatch rider pulled a pistol to assassinate Amaechi, but missed his target, after which Amaechi's Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Mr. Seimeikumo Debewari, intervened to save the minister from further assassination attempt.
The statement also alleged that while the SARS officers stepped down to assault the security personnel of the governor, the soldiers remained in their vehicle watching the scene.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, said there was no attack on the governor, he said the incident was merely an altercation between the governor's security details and those of the Minister.
On the attack on his convoy on Saturday, Governor Wike said the people of Rivers State should not be surprised at the level of desperation by the Minister of Transportation, noting that they should expect worst actions by the APC in the future.
"In a blatant show of naked raw power, the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, this afternoon narrowly escaped being shot by security men attached to the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike".
Rivers APC also stated that the risky trend, if not nipped in the bud, might jeopardise the peace pervading the Niger Delta.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor said the All Progressives Congress (APC) government at the centre should be held responsible if anything untoward befalls the state.
The statement added, "One of the two cars had security men assigned to protect the minister in Port Harcourt". These constant harrasement and attempt on the Life of Governor Wike is an open invitation to anarchy and another plan of the APC to ignite crisis against Rivers State.
But Mr. Amaechi denied the claims, saying that "gun-totting security men attached to Wike's convoy" surrounded Mr. Amaechi's auto, threatening to shoot him. They hit the vehicle, tried to smash the windscreens, back and side windows and broke a side mirror. Wike also stayed inside his vehicle. "The policeman's rifle was also taken from him".
Wike's security men were heard loudly insulting Amaechi and called him all sorts of derogative names.
