Tying in with Lung Cancer Awareness Month, the Mercy Health Springfield Regional Cancer Center will "Shine a Light on Lung Cancer" with a free dinner and discussion event, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cancer Center, 148 W. North St.
The doctors will discuss how to raise awareness about lung cancer and early detection, the local lung cancer screening program and the evolution of targeted cancer therapies that are now available to treat lung cancer.
There's also the chance to have a conversation with a nurse and the Cancer Research UK team can put people in touch with other health services in their area such as stop smoking services, which are the most effective way to stop smoking.
"Lung cancer is absolutely rubbish, because it takes such a long time for any signs of symptoms to present themselves".
"The reality is that anyone can get lung cancer, yet lung cancer has been in the shadows for decades", said Rita Redaelli, executive director of the American Lung Association in San Diego.
