How to play Starcraft II for free
Co-op commanders Raynor, Kerrigan, and Artanis will also be available for free whereas the other commanders are only "free up to level 5".
Those who wish to experience later chapters in the StarCraft II story can purchase the additional single-player campaigns, Heart of the Swarm, Legacy of the Void, and Nova Covert Ops, individually ($14.99 United States dollars each) or together in the Campaign Collection ($39.99) through the online Blizzard Shop.
If you're looking to experience the more recent story chapters included in the expansions Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void, you'll need to buy these seperately.
Starcraft 2 is now free to play on PC and Mac
You also get access to all multiplayer units in the Unranked Multiplayer and Custom game modes.
The free version of "StarCraft II" is now out, and that means you can play the popular RTS without paying a dime right now.
According to an announcement at BlizzCon 2017, Blizzard plans to turn (parts of) StarCraft II into a free title starting this week. To unlock it, they have to earn 10 First Wins of the Day in Unranked or Versus AI play.
However, players who already own Wings of Liberty will also have an advantage.
If you've never played StarCraft II, you really need to check this out, unless you truly detest strategy games. Those who already bought the game, they can instead get the expansion Heart of the Swarm, but only if they bought the game before November 8th and if they don't already have the DLC.
Blizzard also described how they have a 'catalog of content for people ... if they came in from free-to-play'.
Blizzard hopes that the shift to a free-to-play model will encourage more gamers to try out the iconic real-time strategy game for themselves. All you have to do is log in between November 8 and December 8 to claim it through the Battle.net client (there should be a little gift icon in the upper-right corner).
