In one of the most interesting developments, Samsung has reportedly kicked off the mass production of 512GB eUFS storage modules for mobile phones.
With Samsung's new 512GB eUFS storage, the South Korean company will soon be able to manufacture smartphones or tablets that have built-in flash storage that's the same as or even more than some desktop or laptop computers.
The solution consists of eight 64-layer 512 Gb V-NAND chips and a controller chip, which the team claims doubles the density of Samsung's previous 48-layer V-NAND-based 256 GB eUFS, using the same amount of space. The company added it would expand production of 256Gb V-NAND chips, while it would be aggressive in ramping up the newer 64-layer 512Gb V-NAND chips.

Would you still be interested in picking up the Galaxy S9 if it shipped with 500GB of internal flash storage instead of a microSD slot? Samsung is also using a bunch of new technologies to increase performance and energy efficiency. Simply put, Samsung's new storage solution is able to stay power efficient even though it contains twice the number of cells compared to a 256GB eUFS. For example, the new high-capacity eUFS enables a flagship smartphone to store approximately 130 4K Ultra HD (3840x2160) video clips of a 10-minute duration, * which is about a tenfold increase over a 64GB eUFS which allows storing only about 13 of the same-sized video clips.
As for random read speeds, Samsung says that the 512GB eUFS has a read speed of 42,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS) and write speed of 40,000 IOPS. That translates to being able to transfer a 5GB Full HD video clip to an SSD in about six seconds, which is about eight times faster than a typical microSD card. The outcome of this is that users can enjoy a seamless multi-media experience in addition to "file searching and video downloading in dual-app viewing mode".
The Samsung 512GB eUFS also features strong read and write performance.
