Deadline for Aadhar Card linking
07 December 2017, 09:56 | Glen Norman
Last date for mandatory linking Aadhaar to avail services extended
While the deadline extension will be applicable on several schemes, there will be no change in last date for linking Aadhaar with mobile numbers which is to be done on or before February 6, 2018 by judicial orders. The government had in August extended by four months the deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar till 31 December, pending the Supreme Court verdict.
A notification to this effect will be issued by the central government on Friday, Attorney General KK Venugopal, who is representing the Centre, told the court. Our objective is, all duplicate PANs should be eliminated which are not linked to Aadhaar card.
The three-judge bench of the apex court which was hearing the case said it would set up a constitutional bench to hear interim pleas.
The bench, also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, said only the Constitution bench will pass an interim order in the matter. Financial assets like mutual funds will also have to be linked to the 12-digit number. "So, all the Benami transactions will go", the official said. Other services that would require Aadhaar include mobile phones and banking services.
The CJI, on October 30, had indicated that a Constitution Bench would hear the petitions against the validity of Aadhaar scheme from November last week.
The deadline for linking bank accounts and financial services with Aadhaar was December 31, 2017.
