Delhi government to NGT: No exemption for women in next odd-even programme

Delhi: Odd-Even rule to be implemented to combat pollution
When the bench asked the Delhi government its stand on the odd-even scheme, the counsel appearing for it said the government wants to implement it with exceptions and has also filed a review plea in this regard which will be heard tomorrow.
Taking cognisance on rising values of pollutants in city air, the Delhi Government on Wednesday assured the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that it will implement the next odd-even traffic rationing scheme with no exemption to women and two-wheelers.
The government has also pledged to stop all construction if pollution levels touched the "severe" category, and ban the entry of trucks into Delhi.
On November 28, it had asked the AAP government and four neighbouring states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to submit an action plan on tackling pollution. However, later the city Government demanded that the odd-even scheme shall come in entire NCR region and not just Delhi. "Two conditions of NGT that two wheelers and women can not be exempted make it hard to implement odd-even as we do not have adequate buses", Gahlot was quoted by PTI.
Broadcom Limited (AVGO) Analysts See $3.92 EPS
With 2.76 million avg volume, 1 days are for Broadcom Limited Ord (NASDAQ: AVGO)'s short sellers to cover AVGO's short positions. Broadcom has been working to convince investors that its offer of $70 a share provides the most value to shareholders.
According to the Delhi government, it had very strong reasons for making the exemptions, saying many women do not feel comfortable or safe in public transport, especially those who work at odd hours. Also, it told the court that the system is not equipped to accommodate so many two-wheeler drivers.
But the green court had tough words for the government and noted that not a single First Information Report or FIR had been filed in connection with pollution. Today, the Delhi government has submitted its much-awaited action plan to combat pollution level and the bad air quality. Sri Lankan players wore masks as the air quality dipped, while some even vomited on field because of the pollution.
Higher Ground Set To Be Worst Hit By Snow
Met Office meteorologist John West said: "Storm Caroline is well on its way across northern parts of the UK". Accumulations of up to three centimetres are possible in parts while icy conditions are likely on the roads.
The NGT had made it clear that only emergency vehicles such as fire engines and ambulances can be granted an exemption.
