Delhi Max Hospital's licence cancelled over newborn's death
The baby boy died at a nursing home in Pitampura after battling for life for almost a week.
Parents of a twin born prematurely at Max hospital Shalimar Bagh alleged that the hospital declared one of them dead when the baby still had signs of life.
The hospital handed the twins to the family in a polythene sac, however, the boy was found alive while the parents were on the way to crematorium for performing last rites. It added that Max Hospital makes about 275 to 525 per cent profit on the sale of disposable syringes by forcing patients to buy products from its own pharmacy. "On November 30, the baby was brought to the centre and were able to maintain his vitals for a few days". Max Hospital, in a statement on Wednesday said, "We just learnt of the sad demise of the 23-week preterm baby, who was on ventilator support". PTI reported that the child's father, Ashok Kumar, has refused to accept the body as a mark of protest.

"After opening the plastic bag, we found the baby was breathing", said Kumar, who rushed to a nearby nursing home in Pitampura along with other family members. While we understand that survival in extreme preterm births is rare, it is always painful for the parents and family.
The enquiry committee set by the Delhi Government to probe into it has submitted its report on Tuesday, while the final report is still awaited.
The incident began following the premature delivery of twins, a boy and a girl, after a five-month pregnancy.
