NRI Google techie held for molesting US woman

The Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested a 22-year-old non-resident Indian for allegedly molesting a woman from the United States at the Taj Diplomatic Enclave in New Delhi, News18 reported.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) BK Singh, the woman had checked into the hotel on January 6 where she befriended Anmol Singh Kharbanda (25).

She alleged the two were introduced to each other during their stay at the hotel, and that they had drinks in his room on the night of January 8. "She alleged that he tried to grab her and molested her, besides offering some drinks laced with sedatives".

To this, Shashi Tharoor expressed his objection. "The Gujarat High Court ruled in 2010 that Hindi is not the national language". To that, the senior minister said: "Not just Rs 40 crore, the government is ready to spend Rs 400 crore on it".

Perturbed over the incident, the victim locked herself in another room for the entire night.

"She did not lodge a complaint the very next day as she had to go to Jaipur", he added. On January 10, she approached police alleging that Kharbanda, a resident of California, had molested her.

"We registered an FIR under Sections 354 and 328 of the Indian Penal Code and got her statement recorded before the City Magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC", the officer informed the news agency. He visited the Gurugram office (Google head office in India).
