Packers make two big changes to offensive coaching staff
GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay Packers' coaching changes weren't limited to the defensive side of the ball.
Bennett, who played for the team and has been part of the coaching staff since 2005, served as offensive coordinator for the past three seasons.
"It's fit. I'm very comfortable with where I am in my career", McCarthy said Thursday during his season-ending press conference.
The path back to Green Bay has opened for Ben McAdoo, the franchise where he coached first tight ends then quarterbacks from 2006-13. But Aaron Rodgers' injury exposed a number of issues with the team, some of which aren't new problems, and McCarthy is making some bold moves.
Expect the Green Bay Packers to put up a few job postings soon.
McCarthy, who is fiercely loyal to his assistant coaches, doesn't often make wholesale changes to the staff.
A tumultuous offseason for the Green Bay Packers continued Wednesday afternoon as news broke that both the Packers' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach are no longer with the team, ESPN reported. Philbin was the Colts' offensive line coach last season. "I love it here, I want to be here, but it has to fit for me, too", McCarthy said.
Green Bay also announced that it has let go of defensive coordinatorDom Capers, assistant linebackers coach Scott McCurley, and defensive line coach Mike Trgovac.
"The most important thing is the communication and the connection between the GM and the head coach", McCarthy said.
While Murphy will ultimately make the decision on a new general manager, McCarthy "cleaned house" with his coaching staff after the Packers went 7-9 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
UEFA Fans' Team Of The Year 2017 Announced
Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos was chosen as the second center-back, along with his left-back teammate Marcelo. He was picked for a fifth time and is just one appearance behind leading keeper Iker Casillas.
Though, as NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reports, former Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley is also a candidate for the job.
It was unclear in what order the three would be interviewed and whether all three would be interviewed today or if the in-house interviews would carry into Friday.
Depending on which direction the winds blow in team president Mark Murphy's search to replace general manager Ted Thompson, they could be absolutely howling before long.
Wolf has spent the last 14 years with the Packers, but had ties to the organization before officially getting hired.
