Here's the Latest on Trump's DACA Legal Battle
13 January 2018, 06:20 | Glen Norman
US President Donald Trump yesterday blasted the US court system as "broken and unfair" after a federal judge blocked his move to end the programme protecting young immigrants brought to the United States illegally by their parents, commonly known as "Dreamers".
"Truly, it [DACA fix] should be a bill of love", Trumpsaid. "But I think, to me, a clean bill is a bill of DACA - we take care of them, and we also take care of security".
"Dreamers", people brought to the US illegally as children, and other supporters of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, listened, Wednesday, as lawmakers spoke at the Capitol in Washington.
The ruling came hours after Trump presided over a high-profile White House meeting with lawmakers from both parties on the fate of so-called Dreamers. Feinstein is asking here: When we talk about just DACA, we don't want to be back here two years later.
If Congress strikes a bipartisan deal on immigration that protects DREAMers, adds to border security (but not a physical a wall), redefines chain migration and includes some visa reforms, Trump may like it - or not. It allows people brought to the USA illegally as children to stay.
Diaz says the meeting was a fascinating window into how Trump negotiates.
That decision has set off a fierce debate in Washington as Democrats and Republicans spar about how to provide relief for about 800,000 immigrants who could face deportation when the programme ends on March 5.
The latest immigration negotiations are part of a broader series of talks over issues ranging from funding the federal government through next September to renewing a children's health insurance program and giving US territories and states additional aid for rebuilding after last year's hurricanes and wildfires.
The lawmakers were describing how certain immigration programs operate, including one to give safe haven in the United States to people from countries suffering from natural disasters or civil strife. His office brought the case along with the University of California and other plaintiffs.
But Alsup argued in his ruling that not only was President Barack Obama within his rights to enact DACA in 2012, but that Trump himself had backed the program even after ending it, demonstrating that it was in the public's interest. We need the wall for security. President, you need to be clear though. We're going to address chain migration.
