Trump in 'excellent health', says doctor after medical exam

A routine annual affair for every U.S. president, Trump's medical checkup is being widely reported and has drawn media attention in view of his political opponents raising questions about his health.

"The President's physical exam today went exceptionally well", Dr. Ronnie Jackson said in a brief statement.

Critics began openly questioning Trump's psyche last week following a tweet in which he said he has a bigger nuclear button than North Korea leader Kim Jong Un, and the publication of Fire and Fury, a book about the White House, in which anonymous Trump acquaintances questioned the president's mental stability.

Next Tuesday, the White House physician who examined Trump will be answering questions during the daily briefing.

US President Donald Trump is in excellent health, his physician said today after he underwent his first physical examination since taking office.

Psychiatric exams are not part of presidential physicals, but Trump aides have insisted that Trump doesn't need one. Past presidents are not known to have been tested for mental acuity while in office - including Ronald Reagan, who five years after leaving the White House was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. White House spokesman Hogan Gidley told reporters Monday that Trump is "sharp as a tack".

For example, John F. Kennedy disclosed war injuries but not the fact that he suffered from Addison's disease, a degenerative condition. Besides golf, the president also reportedly doesn't believe in exercising.

When he was running for office, Trump released a glowing report from his personal physician in NY, who said Trump would be "the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency".
