For a while now, we've heard reports about the shrinking Android smartwatch market.

It looks as though there are some changes afoot for Google's smartwatch operating system, which has been called Android Wear since its inception three years ago. It remains unclear whether Google will go forth with the changes, but it makes sense to see changes like this since Android Wear hasn't performed as well as Google has hoped in recent memory. It can be used to help set up other Android devices near the phone, and it clearly shows "Wear OS" and a new logo with echoes of the Google Assistant design. While the Apple Watch saw record sales in 2017, with around 18 million units shipped, according to researchers IDC, sales of smartwatches running Android Wear are having a tougher time.

Although the rebrand is now just a rumor, it's becoming a bit of a trend for Google with its Android products. Whatever the reason for the apparent stagnation in the Android Wear ecosystem, it appears that Google is looking to shake things up-starting with a rebranding of the OS to 'Wear OS'.

Google is finally bringing one of their much talked about feature, earlier limited only to Pixel and Pixel 2 phones.

Only available in US English and on Amazon Echo devices for now, Follow-Up Mode can be switched on via the Alexa smartphone app. Because the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet doesn't have a home button, all you need to do is ask Alexa what you like to do.

Android Wear used to be my personal favorite wearable OS, and I religiously wore the Samsung Gear Live, Moto 360, and Huawei Watch. Apple now leads the way in the wearables sector, ahead of Xiaomi, Fitbit and Garmin, all products and brands not using Android Wear.
