Modi launches campaign to eradicate TB from India by 2025

India will support every country to make a TB-free world PM Modi at End TB Summit

He said, "The fact that several ministers from all states and concerned officers are present in the event here, indicate how we, as a Team India, are determined to eradicate TB from India".

Taking a dig at the UPA government, the PM pointed out that though immunisation campaigns have been on in the country for the last 35 years, the target of complete immunisation had not been achieved till 2014. According to stats, due to TB every year 1.7 million lost their lives across the country.

Tedros was speaking at the "End TB Summit", inaugurated today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who launched a campaign to eradicate the disease by 2025, five years ahead of a globally-set deadline. The Summit is hosted by the Health Ministry along with World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Stop TB Partnership. An airborne disease, TB represents a global health security threat and remains most prevalent among the poor.
