Both Ulster Rugby and the IRFU have come under pressure from sponsors to deal with the "issues" raised during the trial.

Ulster players Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding are to leave the club after they were acquitted of rape charges, Sky sources say.

In his statement, Jackson said: 'I am deeply disappointed about the outcome of the IRFU and Ulster Rugby's internal review.

A protest organised by the Belfast Feminist Network has been held at Friday's Ulster Rugby game.

Mindful of the issues about players' behaviour off the field and some of the opinions expressed in the text messages, the IRFU also said it would launch "an in-depth review of existing structures and educational programmes, within the game in Ireland, to ensure the importance of these core values is clearly understood, supported and practised at every level of the game".

A female Ulster supporter, who asked not to be named, said: "I Think it's a load of nonsense, the guys have been tried for what they were accused of and that's it".

"With the support of my family and friends I shall seek new challenges elsewhere".

Former Ulster and Ireland captain Willie John McBride added his considerable weight to the debate, saying both players should be allowed to resume their careers.

Meanwhile, Craig Gilroy has been sanctioned over a message sent following the alleged incident in 2016, and will be unavailable to play for Ulster until the 26th of April.

Jackson and Olding are finished at Ulster.
