The redesign will reportedly feature an easier-to-access Calendar, the ability to send smart replies, support for offline mode, and much more.
It'll also be possible to ask recipients to confirm their identities with a text-based passcode.
A Gmail update for the web has been long awaited since the web client hasn't changed in many years, thus we can expect the web UI to look something like Google's material design on smartphones.
G Suite administrators, who manage the online Google domain, gave some details of the design to 9to5Google. Among the more intriguing-sounding innovations: a "Confidential Mode" that keeps email protected by not allowing the recipient to forward it, cut and paste from it, print from it, or download it, per TechCrunch-though more than one source points out there's nothing stopping someone from simply taking a picture of the email, either via a computer screenshot or with a camera.
Stories Facebook to be a new feature
Now, the Stories section on Facebook is getting boost as the giant is going to add AR doodles and Boomerange GIFs to the stories. On the other hand, Instagram's Boomerang feature is going to replace the Camera button on the Stories on Facebook .
As presented by TechCrunch, a small lock icon appears in the compose window for an email which represents "Confidential Mode". Users will be able to select a date when the email will expire, after which the receiver will no longer be able to see the email.
The last effort made by Google to change Gmail's interface was when it introduced the Inbox concept, though the web version has not changed in appearance even after that change in 2014.
Google in its mail assured a "fresh, clean look for Gmail on the web,". The revision states, "Our automated systems analyse your content (including emails) to provide you personally relevant product features, such as customised search results, tailored advertising, and spam and malware detection".
'We're working on some major updates to Gmail (they're still in draft phase)', a Google spokesperson told MailOnline.
To localise the app, the tech company has included Kiswahili voice search option that recognises not only words in the language but also Kenyan accents.
Google'sGmail redesign should be out in the next few weeks, with G Suite customers and personal accounts getting early access to it. The same features will be available for the regular Gmail users as well.
There have also been other reports which inform us about the new Gmail UI.
