COPPA regulates how mobile apps, games, and websites are allowed to collect and process personal information from children under the age of 13, in an effort to protect minors from giving away their personal data before they fully understand the implications of it.

The study finds thousands of apps targeted to children were sending data to advertisers, some including Global Positioning System location.

When Facebook admitted that Cambridge Analytica, a right-wing data firm, had stolen millions of profiles, it was just the beginning of a series of revelations, as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been forced to admit his company profiles people who don't even use Facebook and that it attempts to predict what users do next on the site to cater to advertisers. The study found that many of these apps targeted to kids were violating that law.

For the most part, the researchers were done by an automatic method, and the findings delivered found that over half of children-oriented applications were led to violations of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

The researchers affiliated with the International Computer Science Institute were able to access "sensitive data protected by Android permissions" from 28 percent of tested apps on Google's virtual shop.

Experts Analysis: Genworth Financial Inc (GNW)
The stock of Genworth MI Canada Inc. (NYSE: GNW ) has "Neutral" rating given on Tuesday, November 17 by Goldman Sachs. Traditionally, and according to Wilder, RSI is considered overbought when above 70 and oversold when below 30.

What is even more surprising is the fact that approximately 400 apps were found recording either device information or geolocation data or email address of device owners or phone numbers.

Although the report does not mention an exact number, it talks about at least one gesture - swipe up from the bottom to bring out multitasking/recently opened apps - that's under the works.

But that was not all; over 3,300 apps were caught violating one or some other policy made to avoid apps tracking children.

"Overall, roughly 57% of the 5,855 child-directed apps that we analyzed are potentially violating COPPA", privacy experts from multiple U.S. universities wrote in a research paper they plan to present this summer at the Privacy Enhancing Technologies Symposium (PETS) in Barcelona, Spain.

When we asked Shackelford if iOS is better for kids than Android, he said "No platform is flawless, but parents should be aware that, on average, iOS does have advantages in both privacy and security over Android". Of 5,855 free children's apps, 73 percent "transmitted sensitive data over the Internet".

Furthermore, it says Google's efforts to limit tracking by using resettable advertising IDs are largely ineffective.

Google confirmed that it is adopting iPhone X-like notch cut-out in displays natively as it rolled out the first developer preview of Android P. Now, it looks like the search giant is planning to make use of iOS' gesture based navigation interface support.

The study also discovered that 1,100 of these apps (that's 18.8 percent) send data using a software development kit that is not meant to be used with kids apps, and whose terms of service forbid it.
