Maple Leafs and Bruins
Boston's game plan from the opening faceoff of Game 1 has been clear, hit everything wearing a Maple Leaf and fire the puck on net from anywhere.
At 14:47, the Leafs' top line finally got the better of the B's best unit.
Burned by defensive breakdowns and missed opportunities, the Boston Bruins fell short by a 4-2 score in a back-and-forth affair against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series on Monday. "We addressed it for three games and (on Monday) they were able to do it. Why?" Key players such Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and Patrick Marleau have been held pointless.
The speed was most noticeable in the neutral zone and the skill most particularly on Matthews' game victor in the second period.
They've always said that it's not a series until the road team wins a game.
Manchester City are champions after United lose to West Brom
You win, of course, with quality, but with consistency in every level, not just the performance level but also the mental level. Salomon Randon went close for West Brom in the 25th minute, meeting James McClean's cross which went straight to De Gea.
The Maple Leafs had a couple of other opportunities earlier in the period, but Rask stretched to rob Andreas Johnsson with a great save before Kapanen didn't get all of his backhand attempt on a breakaway.
As for the overall Leafs effort, the Bruins weren't expecting to sweep their way to an easy first-round victory, especially given their divisional rival's success at the Air Canada Centre. Komarov is also the player Brad Marchand made a decision to kiss in Game 1. "It's all we'll focus on right now". That became even truer after they dropped their first two playoff games to the Boston Bruins.
Toronto goalie Frederik Andersen, who was pulled in the first period of Game 2 after giving up three goals on five shots, finished with 40 saves for the Maple Leafs.
"It happens in your life". "One day, you have a great day".
While the Bruins snipers didn't connect, they certainly had their chances, most notably with an 18-7 edge in shots on goal in the third.
"They were tight on us and we have to battle through and be better", said Bergeron. The Bruins had plenty of chances to gain the lead but were unable to defeat the Maple Leafs in Toronto.
Former University of New Hampshire star James van Riemsdyk also scored and Mitch Marner and Morgan Rielly added two assists each ti help Toronto pull to 2-1 in the best-of-seven set.
The Bruins will likely get better tonight, too, with the expected return of third-line center Riley Nash.
In particular, Cassidy felt that since the officials gathered at centre ice to discuss the call there was some confusion. "We aren't just, you know, playing against them for four games during the regular season", said Bergeron. "I didn't think it was".
But apart from van Riemsdyk's goal, the biggest cheer came when Zach Hyman leveled Marchand with a solid hit that sent the Bruins winger flying.
This from a 20-year-old who, it bears repeating, spent the night nose-to-nose with a Bergeron-led Boston trio that's the top-line standard for the entire league. It wouldn't be a Bruins game without some Marchand moments and indeed their were a few.
