Philadelphia District Attorney Says Meek Mill Conviction Should Be Tossed

Thankfully, the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office just acquiesced to the notion that a retrial would be fair, and should be granted. The city's district attorney says Mill's convictions should be vacated and he should have a new trial. Judge Brinkley also denied any members of Mill's legal team a chance for Mill to be released on bail.

Mill was sentenced two to four years in prison last November for violating his probation on grounds of failing a drug test and violating a court order limiting his travel. As was expected, there was no such empathy from Brinkley today, as she reportedly simply scheduled another hearing for June and dismissed any pleas for Meek's release on bail.

For whatever reason, Judge Brinkley's standing her ground. Krasner's office are pursuing a new trial after Meek Mill's arresting officer Reginald Graham appeared on a secret list of police with "a history of lying, racial bias, or brutality" discouraged from testifying, and another former Philadelphia police officer claimed that Graham lied during his testimony when he claimed Mill pointed a gun at him prior to his 2007 arrest.

"The district attorney's office also has proven a great deal of integrity in granting our request a fresh study", McMonagle explained.

A police spokesman said the department had no comment on the arresting officer allegations.

Mill's incarceration is getting a important cause celebre, with celebrities that provide their support and jail visits from New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin and Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney. "I love my dad very much".

Brinkley has been the subject of harsh criticism from Mill's attorneys.

The judge defended herself this month, saying the court has "has impartially and without prejudice presided over numerous proceedings in this matter since 2008". She didn't do it during Monday's day in court.
