The office said the two amateur archaeologists were asked to keep quiet about their discovery to give professionals time to plan the dig and were then invited to participate in the recovery.
The archaeologists excavated numerous necklaces, bracelets, rings, coins and a hammer on the island of Rügen near the village of Schaprode.
According to a statement released by the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Office for Culture and Historic Preservation, approximately 100 coins from the salvaged treasure trove are thought to have belonged to Harald "Bluetooth" Gormsson who reigned from around AD958 to 986 and whose name is today linked to bluetooth technology.
The discovery occurred in January when archaeology buffs Rene Schoen and Luca Malaschnitschenko started scanning a field with a metal detector.
Because they stayed silent concerning their original sighting, the full treasure trove was retrieved. Back in 2015, a man discovered Roman-era coins, mosaic glassware, and hobnails from a pair of shoes and last year, four 2,000 year gold torques were unearthed in England.
As a result of his discovery, preservationists have now salvaged significantly more than 600 pieces and coins of silver jewelry dating back into the 10th century. The oldest coin, a Damascus dirham, dates to 714 CE, and the newest is a penny from 983 CE.
Towards the end of his life, Bluetooth's son Sweyn Forkbeard rebelled against his father and took the throne, while Bluetooth fled to Pomerania - northeast Germany on the Baltic sea - where he died a year or so later.
He is credited with unifying Denmark and introducing Christianity to the Nordic country.
His nickname came from the fact he had a dead tooth that looked bluish, but it's now best known for the wireless Bluetooth technology invented by Swedish telecom company Ericsson. It is also dated to the reign of Harald Bluetooth.
