Minecraft Cross-Platform Play Comes To Nintendo Switch In June


Bedrock allows cross-play between all supported platforms and will give Switch owners access to multiplayer servers.

Minecraft is, perhaps, the first and so far only game that has cross-play support on Xbox One, Windows 10, Android, iOS, VR, and, soon, Nintendo Switch.

Microsoft announced yesterday that the Bedrock version of Minecraft will launch on June 21 on Nintendo Switch.

This new Switch version will come with all the previously released content, including the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack that's exclusive to Switch, and there's a new in-game store call the Minecraft Marketplace where you can share and buy skins, worlds and textures using the Minecoin in-game currency. The update will also include achievements and gamerscore to track progress.

The update will also bring performance improvements.

Nintendo has just revealed that Minecraft on the Switch will receive its cross-play functionality in June. Better yet, those who already own Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition will be able to digitally upgrade for free. Bedrock is the cross platform standard version of Minecraft, allowing all modern versions of the game (other than PS4) to connect and play together.
