More illnesses have been reported in connection to a salmonella outbreak that led to the recall of more than 206 million eggs last month. A total of 11 people were hospitalized in relation to the outbreak, with no fatalities reported so far.
The CDC has released new information about a massive egg recall across several states. The cases have been reported in nine states: West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
People are also advised to wash and sanitize drawers or shelves in refrigerators where recalled eggs were stored.

On April 16, Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. voluntarily recalled 23,400 dozen eggs purchased from Rose Acre Farms. "These eggs were sold under multiple brand names, including Coburn Farms, Country Daybreak, Food Lion, Glenview, Great Value, Nelms, Publix, Sunshine Farms, and Sunups", according to the CDC update.
The recall involves eggs with the plant number P-1065, with the Julian date range of 011 through 102 printed on either side of the carton or package.
"Consumers with these eggs shouldn't eat them", FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said.
The FDA said the eggs can potentially be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup, which is an organism that could cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms usually include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps which set in about 12 to 72 hours after infection, and last four to seven days.
