First climbers of 2018 reach Everest summit

The group including rope-fixing Sherpas reached the south summit around 8 am and then opened a route to the peak from the Nepalese side around 3:30

A 70-year-old double amputee from China, Xia Boyu, has successfully summitted Mount Everest early this morning.

A rope-fixing team of climbing Sherpas reached the summit of Mt Everest Sunday afternoon becoming the season's first team to scale the world's highest peak from Nepal side, according to the expedition organiser.

Australian climber Steve Plain scaled Everest 117 days after beginning his mission in Antarctica.

Plain, 36, from Perth, climbed Mount Vinson in Antarctica on January 16.
