14 May 2018, 07:19 | Glen Norman

Just three days after pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal the U.S. has begun to make good on Donald Trump's promise to increase sanctions against Tehran. In a separate interview on CNN's State of the Union, he said Iran's economic condition is "really quite shaky", so the impact of sanctions "could be dramatic".

Bolton also repeated the administration's objection to the sunset provisions in the Iran deal, which President Donald Trump had called "totally unacceptable", reported CNN.

"I am hopeful in the days and weeks ahead we can come up with a deal that really works, that really protects the world from Iranian bad behavior", Pompeo said.

"It depends on the conduct of other governments", he said.

On May 9, President Trump announced the U.S. withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or the Iran nuclear deal which limited the country's uranium enrichment in exchange for sanctions relief.
