Cauvery dispute: Kamal Haasan invites Stalin, Rajnikanth for meeting
The draft scheme on Cauvery to be submitted by the Centre tomorrow in the Supreme Court will provide justice to Tamil Nadu, Ganesan expressed hope, while talking to reporters here.
On May 3, when the matter came up, the Centre failed to meet the deadline of the Supreme Court saying it could not finalise the scheme for Cauvery as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Cabinet colleagues were busy campaigning for the Karnataka Assembly elections.
New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) The Cauvery Water Management Scheme presented by the Centre to the Supreme Court here on Monday states that distress will be shared between basin states in proportion to the quantum of water allocated to each one. The Supreme Court had then reprimanded the Centre calling the delay in the implementation of the draft scheme "sheer contempt" of its directive. Amma (former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa) took it to the level of a tribunal order. He said the Puducherry government would carefully examine contents of the Cauvery draft submitted by the Union government to the Supreme Court and would decide on filing a petition if any changes are required in the draft to ensure allocation of fair share of water for Puducherry.
However, during internal meetings, Karnataka had raised objections to the implementing agency being called a Board or an Authority and had suggested it be named the Cauvery Decision Implementation Committee.
"Tamil Nadu will get a favourable final verdict, based on the draft scheme submitted by Union Water Resources Secretary U P Singh before the SC, " said Mr Palaniswamy here, before leaving for Tirupathi.
"People of Tamil Nadu and farmers in the (Cauvery) delta region expect the setting up of an empowered CMB and safeguard the state's rights", he said in a statement and urged the state government to put forth effective arguments on 16 May to win its case.

He also proposed to have a possible meeting with the next Karnataka chief minister on the issue and hoped for some solution since the head of that state "may be from any party, but he is also human". The apex court said that it will not go into "correctness of the scheme" and rather confine itself to whether the scheme was in consonance with its February 16 judgment.
The apex court announced the final verdict on the Cauvery issue where it noted that Karnataka was more deserving than Tamil Nadu on account of acute shortage of drinking water in the city of Bengaluru and replenishable groundwater reserves in Tamil Nadu.
It had modified the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) award of 2007 and made it clear that it would not extend the time for this on any grounds.
