France Wants to Defend EU Firms From US Sanctions on Iran- French Minister
Mogherini will host a consultation of German, French, and British foreign ministers on May 15 to discuss the future of the Iran accord and the US' latest threat.
Earlier, following his presidential campaign promise, US President Donald Trump announced that the US would withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and vowed to re-impose economic sanctions against Iran.
Speaking during a visit to London, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian also condemned as "intolerable" comments by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov after a knife-attack in Paris on Saturday. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas acknowledged, however, that protecting European companies from potential United States penalties could be hard.

Israel and Iran engaged in an extensive military exchange on the heels of Trump's decision to leave the deal.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani asked the European Union to stand against the United States' "illegal and illogical" actions, saying that Tehran could stay in the accord only if it fully benefits from it. But in an interview on ABC's "This Week" program, Bolton said: "That's not the policy of the administration".
The files - declared "authentic" by the USA government - document Iran's extensive work on nuclear weapons, including planned site tests, miniaturization of warheads and ballistic missile delivery vehicles.
Bolton said Europe was still digesting Trump's move last week.
"I have to tell you that I do not believe that regime change in Tehran is the objective that we should be seeking", Johnson said.
