American Airlines Says No To Insects, Goats & Hedgehogs

As more support animals try to fly, American Airlines says leave the goats at home | Miami Herald
Starting July 1, American Airlines passengers can not bring their goats or hedgehogs, spiders or sugar gliders, or any creatures with tusks, horns or hooves on board as service animals or for emotional support.
Under American's new guidelines, insects, hedgehogs and goats join a list of restricted animals that includes amphibians, ferrets, reptiles, rodents, snakes, spiders, sugar gliders, non-household birds, animals with tusks, horns or hooves, and animals that are unclean or have an odor.
Miniature horses properly trained as service animals are still in the clear though.

Starting on July 1, the airline will tighten its requirements on which animals can come into the cabin. American said that from 2016 to 2017, the number of cases increased by more than 40 percent.
The carrier on Monday unveiled new rules for travelling with emotional support animals, including a list of critters that won't be permitted due to safety or public health issues. "Unfortunately, untrained animals can lead to safety issues for our team, our customers and working dogs onboard our aircraft". If an animal seems particularly violent or aggressive, it will also be prohibited from boarding a plane with its owner. However, unlike United and Delta, American won't require owners to submit health and vaccination forms.
Animals that are growling, biting or attempting to bite or jumping or lunging at people in the gate area will not be allowed in the cabin, the airline said. Both airlines started requiring those flying with emotional support animals to sign a form that their animal is well behaved, in addition to asking for a letter signed by a doctor or licensed mental health professional that certifies the passenger needs a comfort animal. "It's hard to discern the difference between people passing off a pet as an emotional support dog versus a legitimate service animal that is there to mitigate a disability".
WestJet says it accepts dogs, cats, miniature horses, pigs and monkeys emotional support animals on its flights, subject to import and export conditions on worldwide flights.
"Only one emotional support animal may be held on the lap of a guest with the disability, provided that the animal is no larger than a two-year-old child", the airliner says.
