Dutch researchers uncover dirty jokes in Anne Frank's diary

He edited and published her writings in hiding after the war, making Anne Frank one of the world's most famous Holocaust victims.Anne Frank wrote the jokes on September 28, 1942, just three months after the family began their two-year stay at the hiding place.

Researchers in Amsterdam have uncovered the words on two hidden pages of Anne Frank's diary in which the German-Jewish teen explored sexuality, dirty jokes, prostitution, and puberty.

The pages contain jokes, similar anecdotes also appearing elsewhere in the diary, and Anne's view of sexual education.

"She starts with an imaginary person whom she is telling about sex, so she creates a kind of literary environment to write about a subject she's maybe not comfortable with", he said.

Deadpool 2 review: still the ideal antidote to superhero fatigue
While some of these barbs may raise a smirk, for the most part they feel forced and already a little dated. Despite Deadpool's jokes on it, it is a pity that the studios couldn't make the movie on a larger scale.

Experts on Anne's diary said the newly discovered text, when studied together with the rest of her diary, reveals more about Anne's development as a writer than it does about her interest in sex. In her diary, for example, she addressed entries to a fictional friend named Kitty. The Anne Frank House said it used new "image processing technology" to decipher the covered pages. The Franks were caught by the Nazis in 1944.

The deciphering was done by researchers from the Anne Frank museum, the Institute for War, Holocaust, and Genocide Studies and the Huygens Institute of Netherlands History.

And about prostitution, she observed, "All men, if they are normal, go with women, women like that accost them on the street and then they go together". The Frank family lived in a modest brick building from 1934 in the Dutch capital, after fleeing rising anti-Semitism in neighbouring Germany, until they went into hiding.

At the time, Frank was 12 years old and curious about sex and relationships like other children her age. Her diary was published two years later and has been read worldwide and translated into at least 60 languages. She had no idea she would one day become one of the Holocaust's most famous symbols.
