Second British amateur rugby player dies on Sri Lanka tour

A second player from a British rugby club visiting Sri Lanka has died, two days after being admitted to hospital with breathing difficulties, police said.

The men arrived in the country on May 10 as part of a 22-player team tour with Durham City Rugby Football Club.

Durham City Rugby Football Club announced the death of Tom Baty, 26, with "great sadness".

"Both players and Clems Pirates hold a special place in our rugby family, and our continued support is unconditional", said Richard Wilkinson, president of DCRFC.

A Foreign & Commonwealth Office spokesperson told CNN it was "in contact with the Sri Lankan hospital, police and coroner", as well as assisting the families of both men.
