As a thanks for his heroism, Sgt. Mannino received a life saving service award from the department.
"I initially thought it was a dog at-large about to run into the street", Mannino said. At one point, a large truck can be seen passing within a few feet of the approximately one-year-old child at a high rate of speed.
The officer then picked the child up, carrying him out of harm's way. No one was hurt in the incident.
The department's post says the child "escaped his mother's watchful eye" and wandered along Route 59 as traffic whizzed by. He responded quickly, parking his squad auto to block traffic and pulling the little boy to safety.
