The melon may be tainted with a risky strain of salmonella bacteria. The CDC said that 60 people have reportedly been infected with a strain of Salmonella Adelaide, with 31 people hospitalized. Officials are advising people to avoid eating anything on the new recall list, which includes specific brands of "fresh cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, and fresh cut fruit medley products".

According to the Centers for Disease Control, salmonella is to blame for making 60 people sick last month in a multi-state outbreak. The products were sold in clear, plastic clamshell containers at Costco, Jay C, Kroger, Payless, Owen's, Sprouts, Trader Joe's, Walgreens, Walmart and Whole Foods/Amazon.

The CDC is continuing their investigation to determine if the products went to additional retailers.

Kroger's pre-cut melon and pre-cut fruit salads sold in Kroger stores in Georgia are sourced from a different supplier, according to Kroger's Atlanta division corporate affairs manager Felix Turner.

The CDC urges consumers not to eat recalled products, to check the fridge and freezer for the recalled melons and to throw them away or return them to the store for a refund.

They are all linked to the the Caito Foods facility in Indianapolis, Indiana, the CDC said.

Domino's Pizza offering to fill in potholes nominated by customers
On May 3, a Domino's spokesperson said the discovery was "an extremely isolated incident, confined to a single store". At a restaurant in Johnson City, health inspectors discovered rodent droppings on 14 trays of pizza dough.

If it is unknown which store melons were purchased from, health officials say not to eat the fruit and throw it away. "On June 7, 2018, Walmart and Kroger removed pre-cut melon linked to this outbreak from all Walmart, Kroger, Jay C and Payless stores from the affected states".

Only pre-cut melon is affected by the recall.

"The potential that these products are contaminated with salmonella was discovered through analyzing reports made by state departments of public health", Indianapolis-based Caito Foods said in a statement.
