Virginia's 2018 Midterm Primary is Tuesday

The following candidates on Tuesday's ballot are running in the districts that cover parts of Hampton Roads.

Heitkamp, 62, is stressing her work for her state's agriculture and energy interests, along with her votes with Republicans on legislation rolling back Dodd-Frank rules for regional and community banks and for some of Trump's nominees, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

We asked the Director of Elections and Voter Registration for Greenville County why voters should care about this year's primaries.

- Before you head to the polls to cast your vote in the Virginia primary on June 12, here's everything you need to know.

Florence attorney Marguerite Willis, who has said she was driven into the race by "the racist, sexist president of the United States", has argued that a woman is needed to take on the good-old-boy network and fight for better lives for women and the poor.

One of the hottest races is for the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic U.S. Senator Tim Kaine. It's been four decades since a Democrat held that seat.

Plane diverted to Shannon Airport after 'bomb threat' message
A Garda spokesperson confirmed to Independent.ie that no suspicious device was found, but that investigations are still underway. A message was reportedly discovered on the Boeing 767-330 plane that was perceived as a potential security concern.

Now, whether you vote Democrat or Republican you're going to notice two questions on the ballot.

Additionally, Republican voters across Virginia must decide which candidate will face Democratic incumbent Sen.

What do the current absentee voting totals tell us?

In Nevada, Democrats face a contentious primary that could cost them the victory in November.

Judging by Menendez's tepid primary performance on Tuesday against an unknown and unfunded challenger, Hugin's strategy appears to have a chance of working. The front-runner is Elaine Luria, a Navy veteran and businesswoman who's been endorsed by the party.

In the Seventh Congressional District, incumbent Republican Rep. Dave Brat will face off against the victor of a Democratic primary between former Central Intelligence Agency operative Abigail Spanberger and retired Col. Dan Ward.

Foxconn investigating labor conditions at China factory used for Amazon
Amazon is now conducting regular assessments to monitor implementation and compliance with its supplier code of conduct, it said. Amazon said it found two of the violations-excessive overtime and use of agency staff-during an audit of the factory in March.

Similarly Rep. Barbara Comstock of the 10th congressional district in the Washington suburbs, often depicted as a GOP moderate, faces fierce primary opposition from a right-wing underdog named Shak Hill.

That's because Democrats Abigail Spanberger and Dan Ward are facing off in the 7th U.S. House District race.

The surprise of the day came just after 4 p.m. when Trump's official Twitter account posted a message endorsing state Rep. Kati e Arrington over Sanford. But if Sanford loses - a real possibility - it'll be because of his criticisms of the president.

In District One, which includes Carolina County, Democrats Edwin Santana, John Suddarth and Vangie Williams are running for the nomination to face Republican incumbent Rob Wittman.

Most of these states have interesting and competitive races, but not North Dakota. Gov. Sandoval, who is leaving after serving a maximum two terms, cruised to re-election in 2014 after no high-profile Democrats emerged to oppose him.

The Democrats and much of the mainstream media have been hoping for a "Blue Wave" election in 2018, where anti-Trump sentiment predominates, but recent events may suggest these national issues may be more of a "drizzle" than a wave, and former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has gone so far as to suggest that the 2018 midterms could be a "Red Wave" election, thanks largely to the mounting successes of the Trump administration.
