Bedroom Police: Iranian Teen Detained over Instagram Dance Videos

09 July 2018, 03:53 | Glen Norman

One Twitter user wrote: "I'm dancing so that they [the authorities] see and know that they can not take away our happiness and hope by arresting teenagers and (girls like) Maedeh".

Maedeh Hojabri had gathered thousands of followers on Instagram with videos of herself dancing to Iranian and Western pop music.

On Friday, state TV broadcast a video in which Hojabri acknowledges breaking moral norms while insisting that was not her intention.

It is not known whether her public statement of admission was made under duress. According to Shabooneh, a local news website, three other individuals were also released on bail after receiving similar charges.

Drunk gulls found ‘stinking of alcohol’
Anyone who has any concerns for the welfare of a bird or any animal can contact the RSPCA's 24-hour helpline on 0300 1234 999. RSPCA officers Jo Daniel, Clara Scully and Paul Adams have collected several seagulls with the same symptoms in recent weeks.

"It wasn't for attracting attention", The Guardian reporter her as saying in court.

Many women's activists responded by posting their own videos of themselves dancing.

Social media users across the world have reacted strongly to the teenager's arrest, as dozens of tweets populated the hashtag under Hojbari's name.

In what appeared to be a coerced confession on July 6, Hojabri reportedly said she only produced the video to gain more internet followers.

The same journey took six hours before pumps lowered the water level. "The operation is being supervised by the Thai authorities". On Saturday morning, the Thai Navy posted photos of letters the group had written to their family and the outside world.

Hossein Ronaghi, a blogger, said: "People would laugh at you if you tell anyone in the world that [in Iran] they arrest 17-year-olds and 18-year-olds for dancing, being happy and being lovely, for spreading indecency, and instead paedophiles are free".

Iran has already blocked access to many social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the Telegram messaging app.

Iran's judiciary and security forces are dominated by hard-liners who launch periodic crackdowns on behavior deemed un-Islamic.

In 2014 authorities sentenced six young men and women to suspended prison terms after they appeared in a video dancing to Pharrell Williams' song "Happy".
