Drunk gulls found ‘stinking of alcohol’
09 July 2018, 12:29 | Silvia Roy
An RSPCA centre in West Hatch, near Taunton, has had to treat almost 30 gulls after they were found passed out or staggering around in an alcohol-fuelled haze.
RSPCA officers Jo Daniel, Clara Scully and Paul Adams have collected several seagulls with the same symptoms in recent weeks.
Mr Couper, who has treated the birds at an RSPCA centre in Taunton in Somerset, added: "Sadly, a few of the birds have died but majority have made good recoveries and have been released after a few days in our care".
Firefighters were called to one gull behaving erratically on a roof before falling off in Lyme Regis, Dorset.
Australia's rise up T20 rankings stalled by defeat to Pakistan
However, Fakhar Zaman counter-attacked the Australian bowlers along with Shoaib Malik to help them win the game by six wickets. Pakistan included the youthful Afridi for his second T20I in place of Hasan Ali, while Usman Khan came in for Mohammad Nawaz.
"The birds appear disoriented and confused and struggle to stand", explained RSPCA vet David Couper.
The charity is urging local alcohol producers, distilleries and breweries to check their waste is secure and that it can not be accessed by wildlife.
The animal welfare charity has had more than a dozen similar reports from the south coast.
Couper said that sadly some of the birds did die, but most have made a good recovery and have been released back into the wild after a few days.
The way so many gulls are getting inebriated, some even dying from their excesses, has today seen the RSPCA urging the drinks industry to ensure it disposes of brewery waste well away from wildlife.
It is also thought possible that the gulls have scoffed grain by-products from a brewery in the area.
Anyone who has any concerns for the welfare of a bird or any animal can contact the RSPCA's 24-hour helpline on 0300 1234 999.

Foot fossil of juvenile hominin exhibits ape-like features
Selam would have been similar in size to a chimpanzee that was about the same age - which meant she also depended on her mother. This research has shed a lot of light on how three and a half-year-old toddlers lived 3 million years ago in the past.
