Erdogan to take oath as Turkey’s1st Executive President with vast powers

Buhari congratulates Erdogan on re-election victory

Erdogan is scheduled to take the oath of office at the Grand National Assembly in Ankara at 4:30 pm (1330 GMT), as Turkey completes its transition from a parliamentary model to an all-powerful presidency.

Later on Monday, Erdogan will announce his new cabinet, which, he said, will hold its first meeting on Friday.

Erdogan narrowly won a referendum a year ago to replace his country's parliamentary democracy with a system featuring an all-powerful presidency, and followed that with a hard-fought election victory last month for the newly strengthened post.

He says the changes, the biggest overhaul of governance since the modern Turkish republic was founded from the ruins of the Ottoman Empire nearly a century ago, are needed to drive Turkey's economic growth and guarantee its security.

Political and religious representatives from the countires in the Balkans, the Caucasus and Central Asia will also attend the ceremony.

Under the constitutional changes, the post of prime minister will be scrapped and Erdogan will select his own cabinet without parliamentary approval.

Manuel Pellegrini is understood to have signed off on the move for the 26-year-old, who has signed a three-year deal at the club. In an interview, Wilshere claims his entire family were Hammers' fans and he had one specific player on the back of his shirt.

The president will introduce his cabinet members later this week.

The currency has been battered by concern about Erdogan's drive for lower interest rates and comments he made in May saying he planned to take greater control of the economy after the June 24 elections.

Erdogan's supporters see the changes as a just reward for a leader who has put Islamic values at the core of public life, championed the pious working classes and overseen years of strong economic growth.

State television channel TRT broadcast Erdogan's described Monday's swearing-in as the "first day of the new Turkey".

The introduction of the new presidential system marks the biggest overhaul of governance since the Turkish republic was established on the ruins of the Ottoman Empire almost a century ago.

After taking the oath, Erdogan plans to visit the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the modern, secular, Turkish Republic.

Erdoĝan has repeatedly clashed with strategic allies such as the United States and the European Union in recent years over the war in Syria, Turkey's accession to the EU, human rights abuses by Ankara, Europe's failure to support Turkey during the coup attempt, and rising Islamophobia in Europe.

A powerful campaigner, he is Turkey's most successful and divisive leader in recent history.
