Weather forecasters say Tropical Storm Chris is likely to strengthen to a hurricane by Monday but will remain well away from the US coast for the next two or three days.
Environment Canada has issued a statement for Nova Scotia and parts of P.E.I. and New Brunswick, saying they could be in the path of a tropical storm that formed off the US coast Sunday morning.
The province is looking at some rocky weather later this week as tropical storm Chris makes it way from the Eastern United States. "Some deterioration in sea conditions is still expected as Beryl moves over the area with swells forecast to peak around three metres (10 feet)", the Met office warned in its last advisory on the system. The storm's remnants crossed directly over the island with top sustained winds of 40 miles per hour (65 kph), and was expected to drop up to 3 inches (8 centimeters) of rain, with as much as 5 inches (13 centimeters) in isolated spots. It could pass near or over Nova Scotia and Newfoundland later this week, but is expected to be weaker then.

"Swells generated by Chris are expected to increase and affect portions of the coasts of North Carolina and the mid-Atlantic states into early next week", the NHC says.
